Put an early point into Shelf Guide if you are lost, then prioritize Assemble and Auto-Shelving. Add Insight when piles are still dense and Sorting when manual order is slowing you down. Upgrade cooldown and capacity around your actual bottleneck.
How to unlock major magic
Every correctly completed row advances your progress toward another ability point. Early points arrive after only a few rows; later points take more completions. PressTab to open the ability screen and see available points.
Assemble
Start while holding a book. Assemble summons additional volumes from the same series into your hands, cutting out repeated searching.
Auto-Shelving
Places eligible books from your hands onto the correct shelf in order. Stand close enough for the normal “place book” prompt to appear.
Insight
Highlights related volumes through a messy pile. Cast it from an open viewpoint where the glow can reveal books across more of the library.
Sorting
Rearranges the volumes you carry into sequence, reducing manual placement mistakes when a full series is ready.
Shelf Guide
Points you toward the correct shelf for a held book. One early point can help while you are still learning the map.
The fastest repeatable loop
- Pick up one book from a series you are ready to complete.
- Use Assemble to pull related volumes into your hand.
- Use Shelf Guide only if the destination is unclear.
- Walk close enough to the correct shelf that the placement prompt appears.
- Use Auto-Shelving, then begin the next series while cooldowns recover.
Why a spell may appear not to work
- The spell is still on cooldown.
- You are not holding a suitable book or enough matching books exist for the action.
- Auto-Shelving is being used too far away from an eligible shelf.
- Your number-row hotkeys are not registering because the keyboard layout is not set to English.
- You pressed the number pad rather than the number row above the letter keys.
Do not unlock or use these major spells during that achievement run. The four key-and-chest movement or inventory upgrades are allowed.
